It’s Not Easy Being Green: Your Eco-Friendly Car is Kinder to Some Cities

Cars that get at least a portion of their energy from electricity have a lower carbon footpint than their gas-only relatives. However, not all electricity is created equal(ly). Carinsurance.org has created an interesting infographic that reflects the differences that electricity sources have on how "eco" even electric cars are. As the accompanying text on their website says, "the 'greenness' of your electric car depends a lot on just where you’re plugging it in." Happily for us, the Boston area is among the more "green" locations for electricity-powered cars, with electricity having the same footprint as if the car were getting 67 mpg. Contrast that with the folks out in Denver, whose electricity generation profile nets them only the equivalent of 33 mpg. Check out the graphic for more:
