NOTES from MEETING APRIL 1:

Volunteers needed to lead our organization: president, VP, treasurer, secretary and directors.

SHORT FILM: Solutions: What's Being Done About Global Warming, 2003, by Clean Air-Cool Planet.
-Campuses-Middlebury College commitment to education of students and sustainable practices in operating the College.
-Corporations-Shaw's Supermarket. For the past several years they have invested in reducing their carbon footprint, offsetting their energy use, and saving money.
-Communities-Keene, N.H. City Council has approved cost and energy saving projects: biodiesel fuel in all town vehicles, and harvesting methane from town landfill to generate electricity to operate their large recycling facility.

WHAT WE’VE DONE IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS:
- Created a Group with 50 on our e-mail list
-Active website and blog
-Weekly Town Crier articles
-Relationship with high school environmental group
-Relationship with town building manager
-Connection with elementary schools
-Monthly film series at library beginning in July
-Participation at PTO Science Fair
-12 Steps to Reduce Global Warming posted
-Participation in national Step It Up Day of climate action

WHAT WE’D LIKE TO DO NEXT:
-Work with schools: curriculum, recycling, automobile and bus idling, biodiesel school buses, reduce carbon footprint of schools
-Outreach at community events, e.g.Golden Ball Tavern Day, Spring Fling; perhaps create our own fair
-Increase e-mail list
-Have 501.C3 status and membership with dues for individuals and groups; need officers and Board of Directors for this
-Create an active relationship with local, state and federal elected officials to work for 80% reduction of greenhouse gases by 2050
-Create a coalition of communities in our 7th congressional district for education and dialogue with our Congressman

The experience in the past six months of working in small groups with individuals committed to research, education and action has worked well. We hope to continue with this format to create change in our community.

GUEST SPEAKER: PETER HAAS
Peter is a lifelong Weston resident, graduate of Weston High School and Yale. He is co-founder, Lead Technician and Executive Director of AIDG, Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group. The mission of AIDG is to provide rural villages in developing countries with affordable and environmentally sound technologies that meet their needs for energy, sanitation and clean water.
