February 4, 2007 Meeting Minutes

  • Susan: Monthly film series at the Library is progressing. Library is heavily used,therefore we will plan to get on the schedule for next Fall and Winter for early evening screenings

  • Mission statement: Will be e-mailed to everyone for closer look and suggestions

  • Debbie: Transfer station DOES accept all fluorescent lamps and bulbs for recycling(due to mercury content). They go to a company in Stoughton which recycles all components of the bulbs

  • Habib and Roy: Working together to write articles for Town Crier. Open to suggestions roy.chatalbash@gmail.com, hrahman@comcast.net

  • Martie: Befriended Weston H.S Group (Students for Environmental Action). Meet regularly. Considering checking tires at Transfer Station to profile increase in MPG with inflation of tires. Four science teachers requested to be on our e-mail list. They will post our meeting notices.

  • Shirley: Met with new Weston facilities manager, Mr McCarty. He has been meeting with all School Principals and teachers to show them and discuss his Power Point Presentation on Recycling. We saw the paper copy of the Power Point. Excellent. He is looking at H.S. HVAC system, Jr HS pool heating, lighting in gym and more.

  • Jan: Met with guys at Transfer Station re: sign at entrance with % of waste and recycled. The numbers are correct. They weekly calculate the weight of the waste and the recycled material and change the sign numbers. It varies by 1%. Currently, 42% is recycled! They report this is a high figure. Most communities are at 35%. They believe this 42% is a peak and won't change without significant educational efforts.
